Our Classes

Foundation

Our Foundation Reformer classes focus on the fundamentals of Pilates, introducing key principles such as breathing, alignment, core engagement, and controlled movement. You’ll learn how to use the Reformer safely and effectively while developing strength, flexibility, balance, and body awareness.

With clear instruction and a supportive environment, this class is ideal for newcomers to Reformer Pilates, those returning after a break, or anyone wanting to refine their technique and build a strong foundation for future progression.

Intermediate

Our Intermediate Reformer classes build on the foundations of Pilates with more challenging exercises, increased resistance, and dynamic movement sequences. Expect a faster-paced workout that will further develop core strength, muscular endurance, coordination, stability, and flexibility.

Classes may incorporate cardio tramp work, balance challenges, and advanced variations to keep sessions engaging and effective. Participants should have a good understanding of Reformer setup, Pilates principles, and foundational exercises before joining this level.

What Is Reformer Pilates?

Reformer Pilates is a form of Pilates performed on a specialised piece of equipment called a Reformer. The machine consists of a sliding carriage, springs that provide adjustable resistance, ropes, and a footbar. The Reformer has multiple adjustments allowing for all postural types to use the Reformer in comfort.

The Reformer helps users perform controlled movements that improve:

  • Core strength
  • Flexibility
  • Balance and coordination
  • Posture
  • Muscle tone
  • Joint stability
  • Postural correction
  • Injury rehabilitation and prevention

Unlike traditional mat Pilates, the machine’s spring resistance can make exercises either more challenging or more supportive, making Reformer Pilates suitable for beginners, athletes, and people recovering from injuries (when guided by a qualified instructor).

What You Need To Wear

We ask that everyone who attends a class with us wears socks when using the machine for hygiene reasons. We recommend Reform socks with gripped bottoms for stability when using the equipment. Fitted fitness clothing is optimal and will not get caught in any moving parts. Most importantly, come comfortable in clothing that allows you to move freely.

The History of Reformer Pilates

Reformer Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. While helping injured patients regain strength during World War I, he began attaching springs to hospital beds to support movement and rehabilitation. This innovative idea eventually evolved into the Pilates Reformer machine.

In 1926, Joseph and Clara Pilates opened their first studio in New York, where they taught their method of controlled, purposeful movement. Nearly a century later, Reformer Pilates continues to help people of all ages build strength, improve posture, increase flexibility, and move with greater confidence.
