We understand that our customers, employees and suppliers actively choose their relationships with us. Increasingly, this choice depends on the degree to which we demonstrate corporate social responsibility. Behaving ethically and legally, treating our employees with respect and consideration, finding ways to minimise our impact on the environment and doing what we can to improve the lives of those in the wider community around us.
Aside from our social contribution as a profitable taxpaying company, we recognise that delivering good long-term returns requires a demonstration of commitment to corporate social responsibility. The board of Directors collectively regularly review a number of policies collectively referred to as Responsible Hospitality.
Responsibility to Employees
For the year to 31 December 2015, the average number of employees was 145.
Our employees are the foundation of our business. We aim to retain a knowledgeable, skilled and diverse workforce which is motivated and appropriately rewarded.
We aim to ensure that everyone who works for the company has the right skills and knowledge to do their jobs and encourage employees to gain industry-relevant qualifications where appropriate. In addition to encouraging employee to gain additional qualifications and supporting career development the company supports on the job training and student workplace placements.
The company maintains a code of high ethical standards, which it expects all of its employees to adhere to. It will not tolerate anti-competitive practices, bribery; fraud or others forms of corruption and has “whistle blowing” polices in place to ensure that any occurrence of such can be identified and dealt with appropriately and swiftly.
When employees have health problems we aim to support them so as to promote a swift return to work wherever possible. We aim, wherever it is possible to do so, to rehabilitate staff who have suffered a problem or disability that interferes with their ability to work. For those who cannot be accommodated, we are committed to arranging a sensitively-managed departure.
A healthy Workplace
Maintaining high standards of health and safety is vital to the company, both in terms of protecting employees and supplies, visiting our premises and assuring the satisfaction of our guests. The company seeks to comply with legal requirements regarding health and safety in every city and region in which it operates.
Responsibility to the Environment
We seek to minimise its impact on the environment. Our responsible policies aim to ensure operational compliance with all relevant environmental legislation. The company has invested in renewable energy sources in order to reduce our carbon footprint. 100% of our waste is recycled.
We are continually assessing our environmental impact and actively seeking ways to reduce it through improvement in our hotel’s operating infrastructure and modifying working practices aimed at reducing energy consumption, reducing water consumption and reducing the amount of waste produced from the hotel.
Responsibility to the Wider Community
As owners and operators we recognise the importance of playing our role in the wider community by providing employment directly and indirectly and paying property taxes to local government.
As a member of the local community we chose a charity of the year. In 2015 our charity was Helen and Douglas House which is a local children’s charity. During the year our staff members have been involved in a range of other fund raising events.
Anti-bribery and corruption
Bicester Hotel Golf and Spa is committed to high ethical, legal and moral standards and all members of staff are expected to share this commitment. The Company has procedures in place designed to prevent bribery and corruption from taking place and is committed to the prevention, detection and reporting of any such events and to their rigorous investigation. The Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy contains examples of actions that fall within the definition of bribery and corruption.
The Company aims to prevent exposure to bribery and corruption by:
Implementing and maintaining effective bribery and corruption prevention and detection measure to deter bribery and corruption
